Charles Machin
Charles Machin joined Duchy Chambers (specialist chancery
chambers) in Manchester in 1974. In 1984 that chambers moved to new premises
in Bridge Street and became Bridge Street Chambers. In 1997 the chambers
joined Cobden House Chambers where Charles was Head of the Chancery and
Commercial Department.
He joined St. James's Chambers in September 2003.
Charles specialises in chancery and commercial advisory,
drafting and litigation work. His emphasis is on property, trusts and
company law (contentious and non-contentious). His practice includes (under
the heading "property") boundaries and easements, restrictive
covenants, commercial leases, mortgages, property contracts and conveyancing.
As regards "trusts" his work embraces settlements, wills, inheritance
claims, probate and Inheritance Tax. In "company" work Charles
advises and litigates in regard to directors' and shareholders' disputes,
directors' disqualification proceedings, corporate insolvency and receivership,
and commercial contract disputes.
Charles has appeared in several significant and reported
cases in the High Court, Court of Appeal and House of Lords, including:-

Charles resides in Stoke-on-Trent and takes conferences
(by arrangement) at his home for the convenience of solicitors and clients

Charles interests are sport (ski-ing and football), Christian
