Claire Bunbury
Claire completed her pupillage at St. James's in September 2007. She specialises in Chancery and Commercial litigation.
Her practice covers a wide range of commercial matters including contractual disputes, sale of goods, consumer credit, hire purchase agreements, professional negligence, company and shareholder disputes, soft intellectual property, defamation, fraud and corporate and personal insolvency.
Claire's chancery practice includes landlord and tenant, real property, commercial and social housing, disrepair, rights of way, trespass to land, trusts and co-habitation disputes.
She has a particular interest in the Conflict of Laws and recently undertook an extensive research project into the impact of Conflict of Laws on cross jurisdiction insurance litigation. Claire advises on many aspects of private international law.
As part of her Bachelor of Civil Law course Claire specialised in Restitution and is particularly interested in the practical implications of Unjust Enrichment in the context of modern litigation.
Claire regularly conducts hearings in the County court and High court and has had experience in the Ecclesiastical court.
She has recently given seminars on cross jurisdiction commercial litigation and judicial review.
Recent cases include representing a respondent to an application for a freezing injunction by a large international vehicle manufacturer in proceedings based upon allegations of fraud and appearing in the Crown Court in an application to vary a restraint order prohibiting disposal of assets made under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 as part of a prosecution for fraud.
Claire is an ardent Manchester United fan and holds a season ticket at Old Trafford. She plays the flute and the piano and is also a keen cinema goer. In her spare time she enjoys reading a wide range of fiction, music and socialising with friends.
